Ojeda & Lucchitti Secure Fourth Place Finish at Queensland Raceway.
Jayden Ojeda and co-driver Paul Lucchitti have emerged from a challenging weekend at Queensland Raceway with a fourth-place finish in Race 2, Round 4 of the GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS championship.
Competing aboard the Tigani Motorsport #66 entry, the pair faced an uphill battle from the outset after difficult qualifying session on Saturday left them seventh and ninth fastest respectively in the two individual qualifying segments.
Starting further down the order, coupled with a success penalty carried over from the previous round in Tailem Bend, made progress difficult around the tight and technical Queensland Raceway circuit.
Despite the challenges, Ojeda and Lucchitti produced a solid recovery drive in Saturday's opening race to finish seventh, limiting the championship damage on a day where outright pace and track position proved difficult to overcome.
"Starting further back and carrying a success penalty from Tailem Bend left us in no man's land unfortunately." said Ojeda.
"Hopefully we can get amongst it tomorrow."
Sunday provided a more positive outcome for the #66 entry. Starting ninth on the grid, Ojeda and Lucchitti worked their way forward through the field to secure fourth place at the chequered flag, narrowly missing the podium after a determined drive.
The result represented a strong turnaround from the qualifying struggles experienced earlier in the weekend and highlighted the team's ability to maximise the package despite the limitations imposed by the characteristics of the circuit.
Queensland Raceway, affectionately known as "The Paperclip" due to its simple layout and long straights, is notoriously difficult for overtaking in GT3 machinery, placing a premium on qualifying position and race strategy.
While the weekend did not deliver the outright results the team had hoped for, valuable championship points and a strong Sunday recovery ensure Ojeda and Lucchitti remain firmly in contention as the season progresses.
The GT World Challenge Australia field now turns its attention to the next round at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, where Ojeda will be looking to return to the front of the field and build on the momentum shown during Sunday's charge through the pack.
